the phrase *feux follets* from which archipel 105 draws its title, comes from the latin ignis fatuus, and translates as will-o’-the-wisp. the etymology reaches back to old folktales in which ill-intentioned spirits would cast an atmospheric glow at night, in order to lead weary travellers astray. today, the term refers to ghost-lights - artificial light reflections caused by decomposing organic emissions. anyway you choose to understand it, this music contains the mysterious and unattainable. feux follets are meant to depict an elusive (and perhaps also illusive) ambition. a tense equilibrium colours the constant, foundational sounds with aleatory movements. the compositions are detail-oriented, and boldly explore their tangential elements.

*friendly bacteria* ist das erste reguläre studioalbum von mr. scruff seit dem 2008 erschienenen *ninja tuna*. mitte mai wird das album via ninja tune erscheinen und am 31.05. im londoner roundhouse mit freunden und gästen inmitten eines besonderen abends präsentiert. gestärkt und erfrischt durch seine lange studiopause, zeigt *friendly bacteria* den weltweit hochgeschätzten platten-afficinado, dj und produzenten in einer eher reflektierenden stimmung. sein album beschreibt er kurz und bündig als *tough, sparser, less samples, more bass. more vocals and collaborations and shorter tunes*. *render me*, der erste vorbote aus dem album, ist exemplarisch für die atmosphäre auf *friendly bacteria*. ein schleichender und gefühlvoller groove unterlegt die stimme von denis jones. scruff traf jones vor etwa fünf jahren, während dieser amp fiddler in liverpool supportete. nach diversen treffen und einigen jam-sessions wurde beschlossen, dass der singer/songwriter und multi-instrumentalist denis jones einen erheblichen beitrag am album leisten wird. desweiteren kann das album mit hochkarätigen gästen aufwarten, darunter house-legende robert owens und vanessa freeman!

these tracks are fairly special in our opinion and we are very honoured to be releasing them as the first optimo music disco plate.noo are daze dasen (aka plastique de reve) and sami liuski (aka bangkok impact / putsch 79). this is a double a side 12inch single (plus a digital bonus track that we couldnt fit on the 12inch and still have maximum pressing volume). built out of imaginative sampling combined with analogue hardware, these tracks are phenomenally produced, lush disco string fuelled epics that fully work their magic in a club setting. this is modern disco, most definitely not nu disco.
after the successful album tour and time for new inspirations nayan soukie and fritz windish come along with their new ep on ursl. inspired by the poem kubla khan from s.t. colerige they made three special tracks that are soundmethapors for some images in the poem. read it and listen to the tracks at the same time and you may find some parallels.

hailing from bari, nico lahs has become a beloved member of the stock5 family. on the latest instalment of the label that guy blesses us with his runway ep. but don’t mix up the title with some anorexic chicks that stumble along the catwalk heidi klum sent ‘em on. if there is one direction, it would lead straight into a planetary orbit. the opener “shreder” sets the pace and mood, a decent composition of pulsating synths, a vibrating bass line and a whispering voice, telling us to fasten our seatbelt because our next stop is going to be “orion”. actually this is in one of the biggest astral objects having been discovered yet. nico takes us there on his spaced out trip, while we are watching stars being born and dying in super novas. on the flip we’re finally approaching “runway” the title track. dive into a world that is undiscovered, promising and overwhelming. all in all this ep is way more than “mystic”, which is the last track. we left our planet as humans and we landed as androids in stock5 galaxy, which is ever expanding, crossing boundaries and creating new life on the universal dance floor.

killekill is proud to present eomac’s “spectre”, the debut album from dublin-based producer ian mcdon- nell, a rising star in the techno scene. spectre also marks the label’s first full-length album release. ian is better-known as half of the irish duo lakker and this album is certainly carved from the same cold slab of stone. his music has already gained huge support from the likes of tommy four seven, ellen allien, thom yorke and the one and only aphex twin himself. bleepy, slo-mo synth lines, dense textures, saturated bassdrums and hand-sliced vocals dunked in cavern- ous reverb – spectre is all about eomac doing what he does best, taking our concepts of club sound and contorting them into something that is truly his own. the melodies are slo-mo and lo-fi, the pads, exquisitely lush and textured. ian’s amazing sound-design (bordering on the intense in some places) and incredible attention to detail makes this an album where each listen reveals a deeper layer. spatters of noise, shards of broken beat and relentlessly pounding techno rhythms also make it a dancefloor-decimating weapon.

weve complied two blackman and maurice joshua productions for the fourth house of trax 12inch. its a bit of a dirty one... to say the least. althought more polictically incorrect then a dutch politician, these humourous trax will set fire to the speakers for the right reasons too. the little known blackman had a 1993 release with >beat that bitch with a bat<, a song which later got popularized by johnny dangerous. the original 12inch got pressed up in small quantities and is available for the first time in 17 years. on the flip theres both the vocal and instrumental version of maurice joshuas (with hot hula hands) >i got a big dick<, which originally came out in 1988, as the a-side of his more known >this is acid<. both tracks are pretty rare these days and will still go down a storm on the dancefloor.

over the course of four eps for numbers and creation of his own label ‘total fantasy’, deadboy has charted his own path far beyond the deep black space of mediocrity with previous records ‘if u want me’, ‘here’ & ‘blaquewerk’. on ‘return’ deadboy journeys further into uncharted territories, taking his music to the darkest recesses of disco and extraterrestrial synth-werk. the opening track ‘return’ finds the london-based producer taking cues from the likes of tangerine dream and klaus schulze with a gentle ambient opener that unwraps to reveal a beautiful and moving track. ‘des niles’ is a shimmering disco track built around an 80s boogie bassline, plus those killer deadboy vocal chop-ups that take us even deeper into the producers nighttime world. samples are worked to within an inch of their life on the floor-ready ‘yhvh’, whilst punchy bass and synth stabs take care of the rest. things then move swiftly on to ‘life code’, with the deadboy once again notching the tempo down and letting the track’s wistful oriental melodies ride out into the dark.
